BRAND · THE HARVEST SHELF

Dry it slow, then store it where the air can't change.

Grove Bags make zippered storage pouches with a film that holds the inside at the humidity a dried harvest likes, and they sit on our harvest shelf next to the drying racks. Here is what the film does, how to fill a pouch, and the numbers we store by.

How we stock it at Green Zone

Grove Bags are on the harvest shelf and the harvest endcap, beside the drying racks and trimmers. Grove Bags makes them in Ohio, and they are reusable.

Most storage trouble we hear about starts with the dry, not the bag. A pouch holds what you put in it; it can't fix a harvest that was dried too fast or put away too wet.

What the film does, in one paragraph

Grove Bags says its film keeps a microclimate of 58 to 62% relative humidity inside the pouch, which is the same band we store by. The film blocks light and UV, and it lets oxygen diffuse out so the inside stays low in oxygen. Because the film does the air exchange, the maker says there's no need to open the pouch to air it out. One honest limit: Grove Bags calls the pouches odor resistant, not odor proof.

The lineup

Grove Bags opaque pouch

Grove Bags opaque pouch

A fully opaque zippered pouch: the film plus the opaque layer keep light out completely. The pick for anything you'll put away for weeks.

Where it fits: Long storage, out of the light

Grove Bags window pouch

Grove Bags window pouch

The same film with a window, so you can look without opening, and a zipper to reseal. Keep it in a dim cupboard so the window doesn't let light in.

Where it fits: Storage you want to check on

Both stand on a gusseted bottom and reseal with a zipper. Sealing them with heat isn't required, but the maker says it gives a better result.

The numbers we store by

Dry slowly first: about 60 to 70°F and 50 to 60% humidity, for 7 to 14 days. Then store at 58 to 62% humidity, somewhere cool and dim, around 60°F. Our guide to curing and storage walks through the whole process: The grower's guide to curing and storage.

How it fits your grow, in 3 steps

Step 1. Finish the dry.

Hang it in a cool, slightly humid room until stems bend and then snap. If the outside feels dry by day 3 or 4, the room is too dry.

Step 2. Fill loosely and seal.

Leave about a quarter of the pouch empty, press the air out and zip it, then store it dim and cool.

Step 3. Leave it alone.

The film handles the air exchange, so there's no daily opening and closing. Check a window pouch by eye.

Who it's for, and who it's not for

A good fit if

  • You want a dried harvest held at a steady humidity without opening jars every day.

  • You want light kept out completely: pick the opaque pouch.

  • You'd rather reuse a pouch than buy new storage each season.

Not the right fit if

  • You need a container that is fully smell-proof: the maker says resistant, not proof.

  • Your harvest isn't dry yet: no pouch fixes a fast or wet dry.

Common mistakes we help people avoid

Bagging it too soon. If stems still bend without snapping, give it more time in the drying room.

Packing the pouch full. Leave about a quarter empty.

Storing a window pouch on a sunny shelf. Dim and cool, always.
